Piñatex® is made of fibre from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant. These leaves are a by-product from existing pineapple harvest, so the raw material requires no additional environmental resources to produce.

Manufacturing Process

1. Pineapples are harvested

Waste leaves of the plant are collected

2. Leaf Extraction

6. Fibres are washed

In water and dried in the sun

4. Purification

Fibres are purified and blended with polylactic acid (PLA) from corn

5. Piñafelt®

80% pineapple leaf fibres mixed with 20% PLA makes the non-woven base called Piñafelt®

6. Finishing

The Piñafelt® is coloured with pigments and coated to make Piñatex®
